Oh my! Two posts this week.

Hello my favorite blog people and visitors.  Yes, I am posting twice this week.  Shocking I know.  But, I wanted to share my first test photo from the new series I am currently working on.  After my previous post on having a hard time focusing, I decided it was time to put the petal to the metal and just start something, anything.  So, I am committing myself to one of my project ideas.  In this series of images I am hoping to tell the story of what our dolls and toys do when we are not around.  What kinds of things do they engage in or how do they really get along.  It is a fun way to explore our own ideas of community, societal issues and what it is that makes us who we are as people.  Toys and dolls have that uncanny almost creepy way of telling more about us humans than they do about themselves. This new series one of several, is entitled "Toy Box Confidential".  It is the seedier side of the toy world.  The not so glamorous world of the Barbies, Kens, G I Joe's and

Props, the beginning again and melancholia

Howdy folks out there in blog land.  I thought I'd motivate myself to get busy by sharing progress pictures of a prop for an upcoming series of images.  I am making a concrete bench out of closed cell Styrofoam   I have cut and assembled the pieces into the bench shape.  The second step as pictured here is with it's first coat of Gesso applied.  I am planning on painting it grey and then applying a coat of pumice medium to create the final texture.  This has been a fun process. I have been struggling with motivation this summer.  No, it's not a lack of ideas.  Maybe too many or just overloaded with all sorts of mental stuff zipping around in my head.  I realized that I too suffer from bouts of melancholia from time to time.  I discovered the actual term quite by accident today.  Someone posted a video  you can view at the link, describing a book project with that as the theme.  It was quite the revelation.  I knew that I didn't suffer from depression in the clinic

Streaky Bacon The Commission

Image
Warning!!!!!! The following pictures contain male anatomy.  It is on a commission piece I recently completed.  So, if you are offended by nudity in any form please stop now. Below are snaps of a recent commission piece that had consumed much of the past two months.  He is a bacon mascot entitled Streaky.  The idea I was presented was to create a bacon character in the act of streaking which was a fad of the 1970's.  In addition he was also inspired by the British cooking show titled "The Tow Fat Ladies"  The first image of Streaky with his silk wrap around.  I was asked to include this option so as not to offend any visiting relatives of the recipient when they were to visit their home. He is a polymer clay sculpt with the addition of doll sized sneakers and is running atop a polymer fried egg that is mounted on a wooden base.  He stands approximately 13 inches high. Here is the unclothed version of Streaky front view. Here is Streaky's

New Camera Test Shot

Image
Hello out there in cyber land   Sorry it has been so long since I have posted.  I feel like I have stepped into another universe.  Anyway, I wanted to show off the new camera I recently plunked big bucks down for.  I needed a serious update to capture the best quality images I could for my new photography odyssey of storytelling.  I opted for a Nikon D5200.  This camera right out of the box produced some pretty spectacular results with some images of my flowers.  So, I have posted one of my favorites here.  It is of the rose I won as a door prize about three or so years ago.  I named it Geneva the plant that is, after my mamma   She loved roses.  For your viewing pleasure is one of the first blooms of the season from my Geneva rose. Until next time my friends.  Keep thinking joyful thoughts and love passionately.
