Bricks Along the Journey

Image
This is a work I am very proud of. It was created for a local charity for breast cancer, called Bricks Along the Journey, Bricks for Breast Cancer. Artists were asked to take a brick and transform it into a work of art that would then be auctioned off to raise money for breast cancer research and cure. I am proud and happy to say that my brick here fetched $450 for the cause. It is a polymer clay fused to the brick and then painted to resemble a dark bronze. I used a variety of sculpted and molded faces to create this milange of faces. We are not just a bunch of nameless faces was my theme.

Home Studio

Image
Okay, here is a shot of my work table in my home studio. I feel so lucky that I have two places to work . I have a larger studio space that I share with two other artists in a studio building about two miles from home and this space at home. In this shot you can see all the things I am currently working on. So, expect to find these here in the coming days. I need these pieces done by February 7 th so, I need to get a move on eh?

Tithe, A Modern Fairy Tale

Image
Well, I have finally found a book to read after several attempts. Unfortunately for me I am a picky reader. I love to read, but don't have tons of time. SO the book must be really good at grrabbing my attention and keeping me involved. Tithe, by Holly Black is one such book. I love the way she pulls you into her world. It is a fantasy which I just love. One thing I have discovered about myself is I like modern fantasy. I think it is called urban fantasy too. That is why the Harry Potter books were so compelling to me. This book by Holly is geared to youg adult readers, but it doesn't seem like it to me. I hope you give it a try if you like fantasy books. No affiliation just enjoying it a lot.

Blockhead Three the sequel

Image
This is the third blockhead in a series. I am hoping to do more but, for now this is the last one. I like to display all three together, but they don't have to be. I used the same construction process.

Another Blockhead

Image
Okay, here is blockhead number two. I suppose I should give a little background on these guys. My inspiration for them comes out of frustration of how men always seem to know everything and are such block heads because we don't listen. Especially politicians. So, this series is my homage to them. I use wooden blocks as the armature for polyclay overlay and sculpt and attached two elm branches to the body using Apoxy Sculpt. The arms are pieces of chain. I used a multi step paint and glaze treatment to give it a metal look. The hair is an assortment of recycled fur.

Bas-relief sculpting

Image
Here is a picture of an experiement using paper clay and modeling paste to do a bas relief type sculpt onto a wood panel. I really liked this technique but, it is labor intensive. I used Golden brand acrylics and a little pearlex powder to create the color. You can't really see the pearlex that well here. Oh, and I used some of the duocolor acrylic paints from Daniel Smith. Love those colors a lot. This is called Sun On Blue.

House Mojo New Version

Image
Here are a few examples of my newer house mojos. This time I gave them arms and hands this time and made them less scarecrow like. I used silk flowers and recycled bits of jewelry that friends have given me.
