It's Alive!

Image
Well, after much ado and chasing this guy around to finsih him up, he is ready for his close up. Presenting "Bita Java" the coffee goblin of the House Goblin clan. He is made of polymer clay over a paper mache armature. He's colored with a variety of layers of acrylic paints and mediums and a final stain coat of two different colors of stain. His eyes are hand blown glass marbles. Bita is perched atop a nice china coffee/tea cup waiting for your morning coffee. Enjoy!

August Work Challenge - Photo Collage

Image
Our August art challenge at work was to create a photo collage. I chose to do a photo msaic using images I had taken as well as altered of my coworkers and images related to my work experience. I used a source image of myself as the mosaic image. I think it turned out pretty cool for my second try. I am really enjoying these art challenges at work. They tend to get me to try something new or stretch my abilities in some way. On Another note, I am the featured artist in August at a local art and gift gallery called Crone Cottage and Creative Hands. It is located at 605 Fairfield Ave. RT.8 in Bellevue Ky. The opening is 6-9 pm. It should be a lot of fun. There's even live music to listen too. If you are in the area stop by and say hello.

Getting Back To...

Image
I rarely do in the process pics. Mostly cause I don't think to do it. But, for this project I had my camera near by. This is another in my tea/coffee cup creature series. This guy is going to be a coffee goblin. His whole reason for being is to make your coffee bitter. You defenently don't want this guy to show up in your coffee maker. He is an inspriation from the Spiderwick Chronicle series. The doll club I belong to locally is having a challenge based on the Spiderwick series. This will be the first of several, I hope. This is the intial sculpt before I get to the refinement stage. Hopefully, he'll be finished for the opening of a show where I will be the featured artist. I will post more on that a bit later in the week. A big thank you to all of you who keep coming back and checking out my space here.

Going to the State Fair

Image
This is my latest piece that is bound for the Ohio State Fair. She is a mixed media creation. I sculpted her head out of paper clay and incorperated a pointed sea shell for the top of her head. I used black hardware wire and found beads for her body and mounted that on a wooden base that was intended to make a large tassell cap out of. Her name is Paradina the "Pearl Peddler". She is holding up a large necklace of her latest finds. The Guilded Lillies doll club of Columbus Ohio and Cyndy Sieving in said club have petitioned the state fair to add a larger number of categories for doll art. I am excited to take part this year.

Shrine Challenge

Image
It's been a while since I have posted a new piece here. So, for your viewing pleasure is a piece created for our monthly art challenge at work. This challenge was to create a shrine or Icon. This is what I created. It is my homage to the merging of human and computer technology. I have been watching and reading with much interest, the comments of futurists on the merging of man and machine. My piece incorperates a computer circuit board, cogs, washers, a G.I. Joe knock off doll and some other bits to create my shrine. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.
