Red, White and Shoe

A local arts organiation called Artworks is sponsoring a charity event called Red, White and Shoe. The idea was for artists to take a shoe donated by NIKE and alter it. There a few rules. You couldn't alter the shape of the shoe, the Nike symbol had to be visable in some way. So, I created something rather fun. The two themes were blasting cancer or Cincinnati Centric. Mine actually covers both themes. I did the Nikesarus. An homage to our natural history museum and as a kid I always thought of dino's to be rather aggressive.

I used poly clay to make the whole thing as an overlay on top of the original show shape. I left the Nike swoosh in tact as part of the skin tecture design. I then antiqued it with two colors of stains. The eyes are green hand made glass marbles. Of course you can't ell they're green in the pics.

It was great fun and I hope it raises lots of money for fighting cancer.

We "do" dinosaurs at our house... that shoe (as my teenagers say) "totally stinks". (They PROMISE me that it's a compliment!) I think you may actually have inspired my oldest DD to try and copy the idea. I hope you raise piles of money -- the shoe is worth it.
