Here is a picture of a bush on the side of my house.  As you can see it bears the fruit of the recent snow and ice we received earlier in the week.  I failed to capture the sun sparkling on the ice though.  It was quite beautiful.  Today it is -1 outside.  I was grateful my camera worked OK. Here is a shot I took over the house that is across the street from me.  The sunlight on the ice is more visible in this shot.  This kind of photo moment really gets my imagination stirred.  I think of ice dragons and goblins running amok.  Little ice fairies flying all over the place coating the world in ice.  Oh, fun back to the studio for me.

Well, I finally finished the "Spark Twins" goblin piece.  I am posting on both of my blogs because, I am not producing that many goblins at the moment.  There will be a few personal goblins to come in the next few days.  So, here they are and what a pair.  There great delight is making your radio and television signals turn snowy or staticy.  They are made of polymer clay over a wooden armature.  I was gifted a set of three vacuum tubes for Christmas by a friend.  So, I was pondering what I could do with them and this was my first figure idea.  These guys jumped right out of the ole imagination.  I fashioned their base to look like one of those old rabbit ear antennas.  These guys have certainly caused me a great deal of frustration of late with reception of signals of any kind.  Maybe they will go and live with someone else for a while.

These photos are from a recent trip to my local conservatory here in Cincinnati.  They usually put on a nice holiday display.  One of the feature attractions in the last few years has been these amazing miniatures created by a local artists and his team.  They are fashioned out of natural materials and usually reflect actual buildings or historical landmarks of the city.  I think his work is amazing.  His last name I believe is Busse and he creates these all over the world . Here is a close up of some of the details of the buildings.  It makes me want to create little hidden worlds for my little goblin guys.  It is always a treat to find an artist who can really touch your imagination in such positive ways.  Hope you enjoy these as much as I did.

Well, my muse has finally decided to speak to me again.  After a few weeks off from any serious creative endeavors.  I am starting a new series called "Animal Guides Who Speak to Us" sorry it's a long title.  But, it is my working title for the moment.  These pieces are polymer clay sculpts over stretched canvas.  The actual piece measures 4x6 inches.  I have a frame in mind for this one.  He is "Rabbit #1" and is going to have a green picket fence frame.  I am showing him here by himself.  After the clay has been baked, I paint a number of layers of acrylic to achieve the desired color and then he is antiqued with an ebony stain. My love of creating the goblin characters has lead me to this new series.  I made some similar styled pieces for the Secret Artworks project for a local arts organization this past year.  I loved the format so much that I decided to continue it.   These little pieces are direct descendants of my tree paintings.  Hope you enjoy, Rabb...

Well, here is an attempt at making a different kind of character of sorts.  I originally intended this to be a Caterpillar creature.  Trying mind you, to sculpt him in the same style as my goblins.  But, alas I am not too happy with it. I made some interesting discoveries along the way though.  The painting process was certainly enjoyable for this one.  I am thinking though, that I want it to be less cartoonish.  Oh, well back to the drawing board.
