Visiting Dignitary

Image
A very important being arrived today on the Codyland Express.  Visiting all the way from Tibet.  May I introduce you to Swami Goat-i-nanda.  His holiness has decided to visit some of his friends here in Codyland and I have the honor of his presence here at the homestead. They say enlightened beings take a long time to come around.  He was no exception.  This fellow has been in the works for many months and finally made his appearance.  He is made from many recycled bits and pieces as is true of many holy men.  His head and hands are sculpted from polymer clay.  His body is soft wrapped wire armature.  His cloths are recycled socks, cotton and fibers.  He holds in his hands his mala for his daily mantra sessions.  I suppose it would be more appropriate for him to be tending his herd as apposed to ao flock. Even the monsters have been good in Goat-i-nandas presence which is saying a lot.  My little side trip away from ...

A Handmade Gift

Hello out there in cyberspace.  I hope the week has been kind to you all.  I just wanted to show you a little something I made a friend for her birthday.  As you may recall I have been on this book making kick lately.  Well, I got the idea to make her a special little sketch book or journal.  This is an albino mountain demon.  They are found mainly in the Himalayan mountains. The face of the book is made from polymer clay and hand painted glass eyes.  The hair tufts are from New Zealand sheep pelts.  The cover is a faux fur in white.  The clasp is a claw made of polymer clay and the journal has a tail page marker.\ Here is a side view of the book. This is the back cover of the book.  The book was a fun diversion and learning experience.  I am hoping to make more books and try some different approaches.  Artist books can be just about anything. There are a few sculpting projects still in ...

Adventures In Book Making

Howdy out there in cyberland.  I hope your week is treating you well.  I am beginning my reduced hour work week this week.  I have been bumped down to part time at the art store.  This means more time to devote to my art and creative business.  A win for me and all of you out there I hope.  There is something to be said for starting fresh and feeling really rejuvenated.  Spring can do that and a good jump start from the Universe as well. The above picture is one of two pieces created for the current mediums challenge at work.  Our challenge this time was to make a book.  So, in true Codyland fashion, I made two.  Monster books are what I decided to make. The above piece is book number two.  I used some fun faux furs to create the covers.  I actually did sew signatures together to create the book pages.  These are blank at the moment. Each book has a one of a kind sculpted face cover and it's own claw cl...

What's on my work table today?

Hello my friends and followers out there in blog land.  Hope you are finding this week treating you good.  I have been busy with all sorts of stuff.  But, I wanted to take a minute to give you a peek into what is on my work table.  As you can see, I have two things to share.  I ordered some new Duochrome acrylic paints from Daniel Smith.  These colors are just amazing.  No one else makes colors like these yet.  They are color shifting acrylics which add a punch to many of my projects.  I am planning on some new painting projects and so much more this spring.  So, I will keep you posted on my adventure in Codyland. Here you can see the beginnings of a new sculpt that I am making from a recycled doll.  Actually it's parts are from two different dolls.  I love using these as armatures for totally different imaginings of these little toys.  This one I am planning on doing a more detailed version of a sculpt I did a cou...
