Experiments for the Graphic Novel Project

Hello out there in blog land.  I apologize for the long delays in posting.  It has been a busy few weeks for many reasons.  One of which I am experimenting on some Photoshop techniques for processing the images for my Graphic Novel Project or GNP as I lovingly call it now.  The series of images were made from a series of photographs my friend David Walker took of my studio when I had made lots of heads waiting for their next stages of development 

I used a cool filter called Lithograph to get the basic effect.  Then it was tweaked in the image menu with the adjustments functions.


This image is a cropped version from the above using a adjustment palette of saturation and contrast  to achieve this look.


This is another image using color saturation and contrast in addition to a noise filter called dust and scratches.


Finally this is a two layer picture that uses the lithograph filter with a layer of technical pen sketch filter that is blended together here to create a color sketch look.  I also used the noise filter to give a bit of an edge.  I like the third version the best but, will continue to experiment.  I am trying to see if I want to mimic the look of a hand drawn and colored graphic novel or just use the photography of the characters and scenes straight up with little processing.  This will be a fun process.

Thanks Dot, this is a fun process experimenting. I like the last one the best and it was the most sophisticated of them all to create. Hmmm, metallic prints? Interesting.

I love the look of the filters! To me it screams graphic novel rather than photo book. JMHO. It's going to be fab!

Thanks Judi and Mary, I am having a great time figuring out just the right look. I am learning how to do actions which allow me to automate the process a bit. Once I find a combination I like I will create an action to process all of the photos. Judi, I too like this look a bit better. As it gives me the feel of the graphic novel without it looking like a scrap book. Now I just need to be mindful of how I take the actual photos for the book. Yikes! That's a whole different ball of wax.

OK , without further ado here is my entry for the ADO Art Dolls Only challenge The Elements . Please go visit the ADO blog to see some of the great entries for this challenge. Introducing for the first time anywhere, the Mergoblin . He is the first of his kind to grace my blog and studio. Several of his relatives are planning a visit real soon. He is a polymer clay one of a kind sculpt. He has a recycled head that was made for an earlier project. The eyes are fresh water pearls that have been dyed. His tail is made from a type of willow tree. I know the photography isn't spectacular but, I wanted to get him up on the blog in time. Here is a closer view of his head area. This is the other side view. He is mounted on a wooden base suspended by a wire inserted into a brass tube. I painted the brass tube blue to match the stand. This was a fun challenge that got me to think outside my usual box. Hope you enjoy him.

Saying Thank You in a Giveaway

You aren't seeing things.  I have posted this piece before.  But, this time is different.  I wanted to celebrate two things in my little life.  First is hitting 140 followers here on this blog.  I am so honored by the loyal friends who come and visit me and my art goings on.  Thank you for that support and encouragement.  Secondly, a good friend and artist I know really inspired me with her own unique spiritual perspectives on giving.  So, MarZel this is to honor your wonderful contribution to my world as well.
