Adventures In Book Making

Howdy out there in cyberland.  I hope your week is treating you well.  I am beginning my reduced hour work week this week.  I have been bumped down to part time at the art store.  This means more time to devote to my art and creative business.  A win for me and all of you out there I hope.  There is something to be said for starting fresh and feeling really rejuvenated.  Spring can do that and a good jump start from the Universe as well.

The above picture is one of two pieces created for the current mediums challenge at work.  Our challenge this time was to make a book.  So, in true Codyland fashion, I made two.  Monster books are what I decided to make.

The above piece is book number two.  I used some fun faux furs to create the covers.  I actually did sew signatures together to create the book pages.  These are blank at the moment.

Each book has a one of a kind sculpted face cover and it's own claw clasp closure.

Both books have 98 blank pages that are made from a nice grade of drawing paper.  The front and back cover pages are made from handmade papers to coordinate with the book.  Seeing as this was my first time working with this method I am rather proud of the results.  It was a lot of fun and I can see a class brewing for this, or at least a mini class.

Well, I now have the fun task of planning out my time in both my home and away from home studios.  I have lots of projects planned, class proposals to write and getting my web presence freshened up.  It is all a part of the year of enlightenment that I am undertaking.  If you want a better life you have to live as if you already have it.  Choose to be in a happy place and find joy in each moment.  Great exercises to live by each day for sure.  I am finding my bliss.  Love you all out there and thanks for stopping by.  Until next time.

Your books are FANTASTIC. Would make a great class. Love your attitude. When a person keeps their chin up as the saying goes; life is a lot better. I'm sure you will do lots of great things with your art. I think your Monster books would make a great class.
Hugs,
Fran

I LUV the first one with the elongated face...and the fuzzy book makes me want to pick it up & caress it. Looks like you've found more more areas you are conquering!

Happy Birthday!!!!!

Thank you Nita and Dot, these were great fun. I think I will make a few more. I have a dear friend who is a cat lover to the nth degree and want to make a cat book for her. But, it might end up being a cat themed monster.

98 pages each - that's a lot of sewing! Very nice work, and of course the monsters are tres fabu... what are the latches - a giant monster tooth? Or claw? I wish pictures showed real life more clearly to my eyes!
Great fun and a fabulous idea!! I think I hear them growling...They are NICE monsters, aren't they? What stops them from biting your hand off when you write in them?

Thanks Judy and Bonnie, Judy the clasp is a claw. It is made of translucent sculpey with a bell cap mounted on the end. Well, Bonnie, I am not sure if these would bite your fingers off. Maybe if you scratched it's spine that would calm them down. Oh, and Judy the pages are sewn together in sets called signatures. Not too much sewing really.
