Moving Forward

Today I thought I would show you a few things I am working on. I purchased the above and the below items from Ebay. They are props for my photo illustrations I am working on. As with most manufactured doll size furniture, they are plastic and kind of ugly. I am not a big fan of the color pink. So I took it to task to change things up a bit.

I like the shape and structure of both the cafe table set and this little arm chair. So, I dug out my acrylic paints and went to work. The first to get a make over was the cafe table set.

I used Liquitex brand Glossies acrylic paints and some metallic acrylics to repaint this set. The Glossies paints give the chairs and table legs a lacquer look and made them really glossy as the name of the paint implies. I also wanted them to be a bit of retro modern. Hence the color scheme. The table top is a mixture of antique silver, graphite and micaceous iron oxide paints. The look achieved also gives the set a bit of an industrial feel.

Next we have the arm chair. I decided to fancy it up just a we bit. I painted it with a maroon colored acrylic and then glazed it with some interference colors to give it a bit of shimmer. the legs are painted with that Glossies black paint to give them a nice shine. Of course I was thinking the gloss may not be such a good thing when it comes to photographing these pieces. But, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

I am still collecting a variety of dolls from a wide range of sets. Now I am venturing into the Monster High dolls and some of those types. I like the exaggerated proportions. While sketching out ideas I realized that I needed to have some reoccurring characters that will be in most every scene. So, I am in the process of sculpting, yes you heard it right, sculpting two little boys. Not very good at little kid faces so this is a bit of a challenge for me, Not to mention the stress on the hands. Fortunately my partner Buck, is going to be conditioning my clay for me. Excited to start sharing some snippets of the process with you all. I am hauling tons of my stuff to the Essex studio space as that is where the sets will be built. Well that's it for now. I will keep you all posted on how things progress. I finally have a concrete plan and goal to work towards. In addition I have some great images at least to me anyway, planned. Lots to do and to keep me busy.

Have a great weekend one and all.

Thanks Karen, the hard part is designing the faces for the boys. I was tempted to just buy some little boy dolls but, couldn't find anything I liked well enough.
