Progress!

So, last time I gave you a peek at the sculpts for my Little Cody doll I am working on.  In this episode I wanted you to see him as he has been assembled on a wire armature and his muscle shape and body form filled out with cotton batting.  This is my favorite method for constructing my dolls.  He stands around 17 inches tall at the moment.  His head, hands and feet have been painted and the next step is to put his cloth skin on and give him some hair.

On a more spiritual emotional note this little guy has been a difficult doll.  Much different than my abandonment doll Sam.  Little Cody represents my innocent self.  Before all the bad stuff happened and simultaneously afterwards too. My bonding process has been guarded until today.  Once he began to take form, I could feel his presence.  His voice teasing me, coaxing me to play.  I was holding him close to me while wrapping the batting and I heard him whisper in my ear, "you are a great wizard you know." Tears began to form as I looked at him with astonishment.  It was a perfect statement as to what I have discovered about my art and creative path on this weeks journey.  I now know what my magic powers are in this life.

This amazing personal healing journey has been a great adventure of discovery.  I knew this year was going to be one of great transfiguration and change.  But, it is my intention of it being one of great positive change that makes it different than any other year. It's all a matter of perspective, another amazing super power.

May you find your super powers, your magical abilities that you too posses in your life of wonder.  Until the next chapter in the Little Cody saga.

Projects a plenty

Hello out there on this rather balmy Sunday afternoon. I hope you all are having a nice weekend. I thought I'd post the three projects I have been working on for the past three months. I have been making some books for an upcoming show at Kennedy Heights Art Center here in Cincinnati. The show is called "Contents Unknown" and the premise is books in containers. Now the idea was to conceal a book in a container. But, many of us in the show have taken liberties on this. Some of mine aren't obvious when you look at the box. But, since we have to display the contents as well it will be obvious what the box held. This first set of images is for a book called "Memories in Blue". This book is a sort of picture/diary of the pivotal moments in my life that made me who I am. Some good and some not so good. I wanted to give an honest yet abbreviated snapshot of my life and those moments that shaped me. I created the images as cyanotypes on cotton fabric. S

ADO Art Dolls Only Elements Challenge - Water

OK , without further ado here is my entry for the ADO Art Dolls Only challenge The Elements . Please go visit the ADO blog to see some of the great entries for this challenge. Introducing for the first time anywhere, the Mergoblin . He is the first of his kind to grace my blog and studio. Several of his relatives are planning a visit real soon. He is a polymer clay one of a kind sculpt. He has a recycled head that was made for an earlier project. The eyes are fresh water pearls that have been dyed. His tail is made from a type of willow tree. I know the photography isn't spectacular but, I wanted to get him up on the blog in time. Here is a closer view of his head area. This is the other side view. He is mounted on a wooden base suspended by a wire inserted into a brass tube. I painted the brass tube blue to match the stand. This was a fun challenge that got me to think outside my usual box. Hope you enjoy him.
