Hello Spring!

Another birthday has come and gone. A year older, maybe wiser and certainly ready to keep on trucking. It has been a long cold winter and as many of you know really cold. So, I can be confident in stating that we are ready for spring, Oh yes, we are so ready for it. At long last it is here at least on the calendar anyway.

My first signs of spring came earlier this week as I watched a Mockingbird keep watch over his newly acquired territory near my bus stop. This little guy is very inquisitive and seems to make an attempt to communicate with we humans. It is such a delight to see nature marching on and getting ready to explode in color and beauty.


I know this beauty of a flower is technically a summer bloom. But, I couldn't help but present it here as my banner of the arrival of spring. One of my favorite seasons of the year. Perhaps you could say I am a middle of the road kind of guy. I like both spring and fall. But, the transitions seem to be the most dynamic and interesting to me. They are opposites that herald change.

Welcome spring 2014. I hope you bring the promise of renewal to all who choose to dip in it's energetic flow. I am certainly ready to get going and shake out the winter blahs for good this year. Time to get some creativity moving. Have an awesome rest of the week to you all. I am anxiously awaiting the last of my set and prop pieces so I can finally start my photo shoots. Going to the big studio today to make preparations for the set up and alterations of things as needed. There are lots of things to move and I will be making many bus trips to take it all there. So, again have a great second half of the week.

If you ever want to visit us in sunny warm California you are welcome. Just bring your own water! LOL
I hope to just be not sick by spring. Enjoy your hopefully nice and warm spring.

Projects a plenty

Hello out there on this rather balmy Sunday afternoon. I hope you all are having a nice weekend. I thought I'd post the three projects I have been working on for the past three months. I have been making some books for an upcoming show at Kennedy Heights Art Center here in Cincinnati. The show is called "Contents Unknown" and the premise is books in containers. Now the idea was to conceal a book in a container. But, many of us in the show have taken liberties on this. Some of mine aren't obvious when you look at the box. But, since we have to display the contents as well it will be obvious what the box held. This first set of images is for a book called "Memories in Blue". This book is a sort of picture/diary of the pivotal moments in my life that made me who I am. Some good and some not so good. I wanted to give an honest yet abbreviated snapshot of my life and those moments that shaped me. I created the images as cyanotypes on cotton fabric. S

ADO Art Dolls Only Elements Challenge - Water

OK , without further ado here is my entry for the ADO Art Dolls Only challenge The Elements . Please go visit the ADO blog to see some of the great entries for this challenge. Introducing for the first time anywhere, the Mergoblin . He is the first of his kind to grace my blog and studio. Several of his relatives are planning a visit real soon. He is a polymer clay one of a kind sculpt. He has a recycled head that was made for an earlier project. The eyes are fresh water pearls that have been dyed. His tail is made from a type of willow tree. I know the photography isn't spectacular but, I wanted to get him up on the blog in time. Here is a closer view of his head area. This is the other side view. He is mounted on a wooden base suspended by a wire inserted into a brass tube. I painted the brass tube blue to match the stand. This was a fun challenge that got me to think outside my usual box. Hope you enjoy him.
