2013 A Year of Transformation and Growth

Wow!  I can't believe I am posting more than once in a week.  I thought I'd give you all a glimpse into what will be going on here in Codyland.  In the previous post I showed you all a photograph that is an experiment in the direction of where I am going creatively this year. It was one of the pieces of my changing puzzle of a life this year.  I have had recent changes in my job, good changes, that have been prophetic in how my life will be evolving this year. Additionally I have just completed a process that was outlined in a book I just finished called The Lotus and The Lily by Janet Conner.  It was a great companion to what I have been doing on my own the past three to four months.

So, big changes are being made in my life that reflect where my heart and soul wish to go.  I just announced my departure from my local doll making guild of which I had been a part for about fifteen years.  Many are concerned I am not going to be making dolls anymore.  I want to lay those fears or rumors to rest.  I plan on making my characters, redoing already made dolls and so forth to use as characters in my photographic work.  My creative vision is expanding and evolving to something different.  It would be hard for me to give up doll making altogether.  Actually I am still hoping to pursue puppetry and performance down the road.

Now to the reason of the post.  I want to show you the head and one of the hands to my latest personal healing figure.  This is Little Cody in his unfinished state.  Just the mere beginnings of who he is yet to become. As I write this his other hand and both feet are in the oven curing.  If time allows I hope to begin the painting process later today.  I am excited for Little Cody's arrival and also to how my life will unfold in this renewed state of creative energy and life.  It has been a long time in coming.  But, I stand ready to greet it with open arms and a glad heart.  May all of you out there get to experience your own transformative process at some point in your life.  It is amazing.

That is one very cute face, Cody! I love how your sculpting is really coming along. Those lips are perfect...now I wanna see how you paint it. And the hand is very life like. I am excited to see how you are really taking off with this new sculpting of yours. Both of us have new jobs this year & I know it is going to be a WOW year for us.

Yes, Dot my friend it is totally going to be a WOW year foy us both. Thanks for the complements on the sculpting. I am trying not to be too critical of myself and make everything perfect.

Hello out there on this rather balmy Sunday afternoon. I hope you all are having a nice weekend. I thought I'd post the three projects I have been working on for the past three months. I have been making some books for an upcoming show at Kennedy Heights Art Center here in Cincinnati. The show is called "Contents Unknown" and the premise is books in containers. Now the idea was to conceal a book in a container. But, many of us in the show have taken liberties on this. Some of mine aren't obvious when you look at the box. But, since we have to display the contents as well it will be obvious what the box held. This first set of images is for a book called "Memories in Blue". This book is a sort of picture/diary of the pivotal moments in my life that made me who I am. Some good and some not so good. I wanted to give an honest yet abbreviated snapshot of my life and those moments that shaped me. I created the images as cyanotypes on cotton fabric. S

ADO Art Dolls Only Elements Challenge - Water

OK , without further ado here is my entry for the ADO Art Dolls Only challenge The Elements . Please go visit the ADO blog to see some of the great entries for this challenge. Introducing for the first time anywhere, the Mergoblin . He is the first of his kind to grace my blog and studio. Several of his relatives are planning a visit real soon. He is a polymer clay one of a kind sculpt. He has a recycled head that was made for an earlier project. The eyes are fresh water pearls that have been dyed. His tail is made from a type of willow tree. I know the photography isn't spectacular but, I wanted to get him up on the blog in time. Here is a closer view of his head area. This is the other side view. He is mounted on a wooden base suspended by a wire inserted into a brass tube. I painted the brass tube blue to match the stand. This was a fun challenge that got me to think outside my usual box. Hope you enjoy him.
