Fortune Cookie Challenge

Here is the challenge piece I made for the joint meeting of River City Dollmakers and the Indy Dollmakers clubs.  The idea behind the challenge was to create a doll or figure based on a fortune we received in a fortune cookie.  We had an entire year to get this done.  Of course I waited until the week of the meeting to make mine.  My fortune for this piece was "Peace begins with a smile."  But, my title was "Peace begins with a smile or does it?"  

Since I made a goblin to portray my idea, he is holding the original fortune in his right hand while holding a fortune cookie bomb in the left behind his back.  They are like stink bombs.  That is the trickster way with these guys.  He originally had a hat topper but, it went missing and I suppose he wasn't liking that all that much.

This first picture is a front view.


Here is a side view so you can see him holding the bomb.  This goblin was created using the technique of the wire wrapped armature method I taught at AFIC this year.  I sculpted the head, hands and feet onto the armature before filling it out with cotton batting and wrapping with a layer of muslin..  I then applied a layer of textured decorative paper to create the skin.  Then he was painted with a variety of acrylic paint techniques.  Hope you like him.

Cody, he's fabulous! Absolutely LOVE his expression. He looks positively devious. I'm glad he didn't like his hat; we wouldn't be able to see his fabu hairstyle! Also love the textural quality of him. I would love to touch him, but I think he would bite my hand off! :o/

Thank you Mr. Chicken Lips, I do. It seems procrastination can help sometimes. But, I really don't procrastinate, because I am thinking constantly about the piece in my mind. Working it out before committing it to real stuff.

OK , without further ado here is my entry for the ADO Art Dolls Only challenge The Elements . Please go visit the ADO blog to see some of the great entries for this challenge. Introducing for the first time anywhere, the Mergoblin . He is the first of his kind to grace my blog and studio. Several of his relatives are planning a visit real soon. He is a polymer clay one of a kind sculpt. He has a recycled head that was made for an earlier project. The eyes are fresh water pearls that have been dyed. His tail is made from a type of willow tree. I know the photography isn't spectacular but, I wanted to get him up on the blog in time. Here is a closer view of his head area. This is the other side view. He is mounted on a wooden base suspended by a wire inserted into a brass tube. I painted the brass tube blue to match the stand. This was a fun challenge that got me to think outside my usual box. Hope you enjoy him.

Anniversary Giveaway of Sorts

Saying Thank You in a Giveaway

You aren't seeing things.  I have posted this piece before.  But, this time is different.  I wanted to celebrate two things in my little life.  First is hitting 140 followers here on this blog.  I am so honored by the loyal friends who come and visit me and my art goings on.  Thank you for that support and encouragement.  Secondly, a good friend and artist I know really inspired me with her own unique spiritual perspectives on giving.  So, MarZel this is to honor your wonderful contribution to my world as well.
